K24 INSIGHT

To make a long story short: I wanted to learn more about how cars work, and how to work on cars. I also wanted a fast, kinda silly, aluminum egg car.

Thus, I ended up with a 2006 Honda Insight, a K24A4 out of a Honda Accord, and a much lighter wallet.

This project could not have been possible without the help of my best friend and classmate, Franklin Vallant.

June 9th, 2022

I drove from Indianapolis, IN to Jackson, OH to purchase the swap candidate. It was a proper basket case. The car had been neglected for at least the last year by the previous owner, but it still ran well.

The car would reside in Cincinnati until Fall semester, when I would return to begin work on it.

August 25, 2022

I return to Cincinnati to find the car is now full of mold. The blown out weatherstripping allowed water to leak in. It was a stinky, miserable experience to clean.

The car was moved into a shed, where we would continue to work on it. This is the last time the car would run under the power of the original 3-cylinder engine.

September, 2022

The stripping begins. The entire interior of the car was gutted, save for the dashboard and steering wheel.

Engine teardown began, too.

October 14, 2022

3 cylinder engine begone. K24A4 arrives.

November, 2022

K24 is now on a stand. I wanted to cosmetically clean it up, as it had sat in a barn for years.

Also found a 2007 Acura TSX in a junkyard and acquired an RBB intake and fuel pump (near drop-in replacement for Insight fuel pump!)

December, 2022

A fellow Insight (Citrus!) owner drove to purchase my original ECA1 engine.

He strapped it down in a plastic tub where his passenger seat is supposed to go. Pure ingenuity.

Work would stall in December, as it got too cold, and studio classes got too busy.
